Just a stone’s throw from the iconic town of Bled lies one of the best day hikes in the region—Mt. Stol. A must for any adventurer with the time and energy, this peak offers a challenge that can be tackled in nearly any condition. In summer, expect idyllic blue skies and a gentle breeze, while autumn brings a mystical atmosphere with fog and wind. Spring transforms the landscape into a colorful canvas of flower-speckled meadows, and winter unveils a snow-covered wonderland, where crampons may be needed to navigate its pristine trails. From the summit, hikers are rewarded with panoramic views of the valley below, with the towering peaks of Triglav National Park rising majestically above, and an endless sea of Karavanke mountains stretching into the horizon. It’s an adventure that promises awe-inspiring vistas, no matter the season.

Itinerary

We meet in your chosen location and head towards the Valvasor Hut, where we start our hiking adventure to the highest peak of the Karawanks mountain range. Headed towards Mt. Stol, 2,236 m, the highest mountain of the Karawanks mountain range, the hike will serve us idyllic vistas across the valley floor, the Sava River, and Lake Bled. The top will literally blow your mind away as the landscape suddenly transforms into an Alpine fairytale with seemingly never-ending peaks all around. After we enjoy ourselves at the top for a while, we go for a good mountain lunch to a hut just a few minutes down the peak. Afterwards, we descend down to our car, from where we drive back to your chosen location.

"This was my second tour with Exploring Slovenia. Our hike started at the Valvasor hut, and while the trail climbed up at a good pace, we greeted some horses and enjoyed stunning views, especially towards Lake Bled. We had our sandwiches with fantastic views of the surrounding mountain peaks at a hut right below the peak. The weather wasn't too good, but we were above the clouds which made it a completely new experience! Words can't really describe the views, it was breathtaking! After the snacks, we continued on. Unfortunately the weather got a bit windy and foggy, but it just added a fun aspect to the hike - it was all a great adventure!! From Stol we even saw Austria and its Worthersee Lake. We ended up going to 3 peaks in total. Back at the Valvasor hut, where we had started the hike, I tried a local pastry called Struklji for the first time and loved it. A perfect finish of a great day!!"

T1 | No previous hiking or climbing experience is necessary. Surfaces: rolling or mountainous terrain with typically easily ascending trails, some steep ascents/descents and uneven trails.
