Itinerary

Days 1 | Bohinj – Triglav Lakes

Starting above Lake Bohinj, we hike along a long but scenic trail that passes a lake and Alpine meadows with grazing cows and sheep. Finally, as we approach the towering mountains above a long Alpine valley, we know we just crossed over to the high-lying Valley of the Triglav Lakes and soon after we reach the Dvojno jezero lake (Double Lake) with a cute hut right next to the 5th and 6th Triglav Lakes. We spend the night in the Double Lake Hut.

Elevation gain for the first day is around 800 m, descent about 250 m.

Afternoon option: a hike to the Lake Ledvica (Kidney Lake). 300 m long, 120 m wide and 15 m deep, the Kidney Lake is the largest of the seven Triglav Lakes!

Day 2 | Triglav Lakes - Lake Krn

On the second day we continue in the direction of Lake Krn, the largest high Alpine lake in Slovenia, and stop in a hut on the way for delicious lunch with stellar views of  Lake Bohinj and a whole amphitheater of peaks surrounding us. After lunch, we head towards Lake Krn along a gorgeous path speckled with wild flowers. Alpine scenery, scenic vistas and a nice easy trail that also speaks about the treacherous years of WWI through remains of deteriorating buildings of the war.

Once at Lake Krn, we can spend the rest of the day by the lake, do more hikes to the scenic peaks nearby, or rest at the Lake Krn Hut.

Elevation gain for the second day is around 480 m, descent about 820 m.

Days 3 |  Lake Krn – Soča Valley

After spending the night at the Lake Krn Hut, we head towards Mt. Krn, 2,244 m, the highest mountain of the Krn Mountains in the southwestern Julian Alps with stunning views of all Julian Alps. The ascent usually takes around 3 hours and we do about 850 m elevation gain on an easy trail.

After enjoying ourselves at the top for a while, taking pictures and congratulating ourselves for almost completing our big mountain venture, we have our last mountain lunch just a few meters below the peak in a small shelter hut. Afterwards, we descend down to the Soča Valley. Overnight in Kobarid.

Elevation gain for the second day is around 880 m, descent about 1300 m.

Day 4 | Soča Valley

On the fourth day we explore the beautiful Soča Valley, its famous turquoise river, its gorges and waterfalls. We visit many well-known places, among them the mysterious Kozjak Waterfall, plunging 15 meters down a rocky amphitheater under the Krn mountains, and the mighty 144-m tall Boka Waterfall, while we also hike along the picturesque Soča River from the Great Soča Gorge to the Small Soča Gorge.

After a refreshing picnic on a pretty but secluded spot by the Soča River, we return back to Kobarid. Overnight in Kobarid.

Afternoon option: a hike to three little-known waterfalls near Kobarid.

Days 5| Soča Valley - Bohinj (Bled)

We begin our last day with an exciting rafting session right on the Soča River! What a perfect river to do that! With crystal clear and welcoming turquoise water running down a beautiful riverbed surrounded by mountains, it serves just the right amount of rapids to make our hearts pumping with adrenaline.

After lunch we head back again to the other side of the Julian Alps. We make a stop at the Vršič Pass, an incredibly scenic mountain pass, and enjoy our last mountain treat together underneath the tall eerie walls of Mt. Prisojnik. Dober tek in srečno!

Transfer back to Bohinj / Bled.
